Watch live: Detroit sports radio's Jamie Samuelsen's funeral at Holy Name Catholic Church

The memorial service for longtime Detroit sports radio personality Jamie Samuelsen begins at 11 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church in Birmingham.

While the service is a small and private event, the family has allowed it to be streamed online.

Samuelsen died on Aug. 1 after a 19-month fight with colon cancer. The WXYT-FM (97.1) morning radio host and Fox 2 sports contributor was also a blogger for the Free Press for the last decade.

A Detroit radio icon and my brother-in-law died last week. They left similar legacies.

Samuelsen didn't go public with his diagnosis until five days before he died.

The family asks that instead of flowers, make a donation to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance or Paltown, the fundraising machine behind Colontown.
