More than five people were arrested in Union Square Park Thursday — and that number was expected to grow — as protesters raged at NYPD cops over the death of George Floyd nearly 2,000 miles away in Minneapolis, cops said.
Some of the protesters in Manhattan fought police and threw bottles at them, police sources said. One officer was injured when someone threw a trashcan at him, a police source said.
The arrests were made near East 13th Street and Fourth Avenue.
Protests in Minneapolis have turned violent with stores being vandalized and burned in some cases as they call for the officers involved in Floyd’s death to be criminally charged.
