Powerful tornado sweeps through China, injuring 33

A powerful tornado swept through north China Sunday, wreaking havoc as black clouds took over the sky, video shows.

The extreme weather struck a tourist site known as Swan Lake in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, injuring more than 30 people, state-run Chinese outlet Xinhua reported.

Footage showed dark, stormy clouds fill the sky as strong winds destroyed property in the region.

More than 100 yurts — strong, structural tents — were toppled over or damaged, according to the outlet.

At least 33 tourists and workers were injured at the site, including three who were in serious condition, Xinhua reported.
