Nick Foles replaces Mitch Trubisky in brewing Bears controversy

After the Bears started the second half down 16-10 against the Falcons Sunday afternoon, they quickly gave up 10 more points to Atlanta, prompting head coach Matt Nagy to replace quarterback Mitch Trubisky with backup Nick Foles.

Foles came in just 5:02 into the third after Trubisky threw a pick on the Bears’ opening drive of the second half. Tribusky had completed 13-for-22 passes for 128 yards with one touchdown prior to being benched.

Nagy didn’t quite get the spark he was hoping to as Foles threw an interception on his first drive of the game on a jump ball that was ruled a touchdown before it was overturned upon review.

On the other hand, the Falcons continued to build on their halftime lead with a rushing touchdown from Todd Gurley II that was capped with an extra point before Younghoe Koo made a 36-yard field goal a little less than 2 ½ minutes later for the 26-10 score.

In two games this season, Trubisky, 26, has recorded 432 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions. He began the season on the hot seat after the Bears acquired Foles, the Super Bowl LII MVP with the Eagles, during the offseason.
