A four-month-old puppy lay for four days in a dumpster outside a San Francisco apartment complex, before authorities found the animal. It was severely dehydrated and suffering from a broken leg, which would require amputation, San Francisco Animal Care and Control said Friday.
Authorities arrested 59-year-old Ronald Jones on Thursday after he allegedly dropped the Chihuahua mix from a "significant height down a garbage chute," Animal Care and Control said. Security footage reportedly identified the suspect.
Jones was booked into San Francisco County Jail on $15,000 bail for felony animal abuse and misdemeanor animal abandonment, city records show.
Things are looking up for the three-legged puppy, which authorities named "Rocky." According to Animal Care, the dog will be adopted by one of the case's investigating officers. Rocky is currently recovering in the foster care of an Animal Care and Control staff member.
