Gary police want help to find a man last seen Sunday night in the city’s West Side section.

Barry Chapman, 56, was last seen around 11 p.m. Sunday at a home on the 7200 block of West 22nd Avenue, a witness told police. A Facebook page appears to show Chapman lives in Calumet City, Illinois, and is originally from Chicago’s Hegewisch section.

Police responded to a missing person’s report Monday just before 3 p.m., Lt. Dawn Westerfield said in a release. The witness estimated he left house, or went missing sometime between Sunday night and 10 a.m. Monday, police said. No one has been able to reach him by phone, he said.

That was “out of character,” the man said, according to Westerfield.

Chapman is 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 195 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a green button up shirt, blue jeans and black gym shoes.

It is not known if he left on foot, or got into a car, police said. He could be heading to East Chicago or Hammond, Westerfield said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lt. Tom Pawlak at 219-881-1210.
