“I didn’t do anything,” Mia Wright, 25, insisted at a news conference in the parking lot of Brickyard Mall, where she said the officers surrounded her car, broke the windows with clubs and pulled her to the ground on Sunday. A video of part of the incident was taken by family friend.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the city will not tolerate vigilantism after groups of mostly white men — some armed with bats — patrolled the streets of Bridgeport on Wednesday night in response to a nearby city protest.

Asked about the situation in Bridgeport, a diversifying neighborhood that served as an Irish American power base for the Daley political family, Lightfoot said, “It is absolutely not appropriate for people to take up arms, bats, pipes, whatever in patrolling neighborhoods.”

The Chicago Police Department offered few details Thursday about a high-speed pursuit that killed a motorist when a police SUV sped through a red light the night before and caused a three-vehicle wreck on the Northwest Side.

Asked the reason for the lengthy chase, whether it was justified and why it wasn’t terminated, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she did not know the facts yet, but she’s been “very concerned about police pursuits” since becoming mayor.
